Nicobrand

For over 25 years Nicobrand has specialised in working with companies to develop a nicotine active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) that suits their particular delivery method. The API could be one of our ‘off-the-shelf’ products or could result in a new formulation.

Nicobrand has an in-depth knowledge of nicotine in its many forms and can help an established manufacturer or new entrant into the smoking cessation industry with the development of their products.

History

Nicobrand was first established in Virginia, USA, by Horace Villiars-Stewart in 1906 to extract nicotine from waste tobacco for use as a pesticide. In 1927, Villiars-Stewart moved the company to Northern Ireland to take advantage of waste tobacco produced by Gallaher's.

The company was bought by its current managing director, Mr J A (Rex) Humphrey in 1982, who identified the need for pharmaceutical grade nicotine for use in the developing smoking cessation industry.

In 1998, the company was sold to Watson Pharmaceuticals., Inc., a highly successful international pharmaceutical company based in Corona, California, with Mr Humphrey retained as managing director.

Awards

The Queen's awards for enterprise are the UK's most prestigious awards for business, made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions. The International Trade award is in recognition of companies that have demonstrated considerable growth in overseas earnings.
